17 Jul 17 - Interesting Evening Talk - 100 years of the Royal House of Windsor
Monday 17th July at 7.30pm
"100 years of the Royal House of Windsor” by Hugo Vickers
This is an illustrated talk highlighting key events in the first 100 years of the Royal House of Windsor, from the name change by King George V in July 1917, right up to the present day. The Royal Family have loved Windsor and Windsor Castle for many generations, but it has been most particularly identified with George V, George VI and The Queen, all of whom have made it their home during their reigns.
The talk covers these 100 years. Hugo Vickers will explain why George V changed the name and the implication that had for his family. He will look at some of the great celebrations in the various reigns, and key events which have propelled Windsor into the consciousness of the nation, including looking at the Abdication, the terrible fire of 1992, and events both dramatic and relaxed. This will be an inspiring and evocative talk by a well known author, who has known and loved Windsor since he was at school at Eton in 1964.
Tickets £10 will be available at the door. Refreshments will be available
